Orkney Islands

Hey hey,

So yesterday we just got back from the orkney islands on the very top of Scotland. We left monday and got there that night went out and about for two days then got back last evening. We were fortunate to have beyond spectacular weather for the trip. We went and saw the standing stones up there, which are some of the oldest ever found, older than Stonehenge. Then we went to Scara Brae, which is one of the oldest villages ever discovered. It dates back past the Great Wall of China and the Pyramids. We then ventured over to the Highland Park Distillery for a tour of how they make their whisky. That was amazing to finally see how it is made, and that is the most northern distillery in Scotland. One of the best parts of the whole trip up there though was going to the cliffs at Yesnaby. We went there both nights and watched the sun slowly go down, which finally goes down around 1020. Anyway enjoy the pictures.

This is actually Dunnottar Castle, which we went to the day before Orkney. Its located basically on the end of a cliff and can be difficult to get to. The bay picture is from inside the castle.

This is one of the standing stones up in Orkney.  This site specifically had 20-30 standing stones and believed to have had around 60 at one time.

The Cliffs at Yesnaby.

The rest of the pictures are from and island/peninsula called Birsay. This is an island when the tide is in and a peninsula when the tide is out. The tide has to be out to be able to get to the island.

And finally the Highland Park Distillery.
